Paolo Bianchi, born in Milan, Italy in 1954, holds a degree in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University and is judicial vicar for the ecclesiastical region of Lombardy. He is the author of many articles on matrimonial law.

Canonical Caviar!

This book, "When is Marriage Null" is an English translation of a 1998 Italian book of journal articles fleshing out the canonical grounds of marriage nullity. The author, Fr. Paolo Bianchi, sought to implement the particular law of the Italian Episcopal Conference in reference to educating the parochial "first responders" in facilitating the examination of non-superficial indications or legitimate grounds regarding the case of the potential plaintiff seeking a declaration of nullity prior to approaching a diocesan tribunal. The Italian Bishop's Conference in 1990 promulgated a decree in which article 56 of said decree wished to promote the study or cursory examination of the various grounds of marriage nullity by those who may not be proficiently versed in canon law (i.e., the parish pastors).

The book is absolutely beautiful in the breakdown and explanation of the canonical jurisprudence. It is a literal goldmine of valuable information, not to mention the exquisite ability of the author to explain so eloquently the nature of invalidity. Wow! This is one of the best books on this topic that I have ever read and I have read a great many. "When is Marriage Null" is canonical caviar, an academic treatise that will most certainly stimulate the canonist who is interested in the field of marriage jurisprudence. Hands down, the finest work I have ever read.

My two favorite areas of marriage law are canons 1097 (error) and 1095 (incapacity). Fr. Paolo dedicates over 75 pages (out of 315) to these two areas alone. He brilliantly explains the subjects so well (with real case examples) that I am struggling to see how this book can be useful for the non-canonist. I do, somewhat, believe that it can be an advantage for the non-canonist, but only up to a certain point. This book is the real deal and a gigantic treat for the lover of canon law. It is not like other books that you may stumble upon from time to time that seek to bring the Church's law into the mainstream arena, no, this book is very different. Pure gold! I love it!!!!!

Excellent resource for couples, business people and parents!

Marshall Rosenberg has initiated peace programs in war ravaged areas around the world including Ireland, Serbia, Croatia, Rwanda and the Middle East. He also gives workshops has worked in the prison systems and has applied his ideas with great success in a variety of settings. His book that goes along with this audio series Nonviolent Communication was a textbook for one of my communication courses which was a requirement for a Masters in Integral Psychology. In short, he is a highly credible author with a gift for simplifying complex topic down to simple models that could be applied easily in daily life.

The basic model he uses allow a person to unravel the trigger for an emotion from the actual cause which is often unconscious thinking or beliefs. For example, if I child didn't clean his room that is not necessarily the cause of the parent's anger. The real cause is some underlying need for example that the parent is concerned about the child developing discipline or an examined assumption such as my child is ignoring what I asked them to do. The point is that we often jump into action or go immediately to a negative emotion without much CONSCIOUS thought. This four step process allows you to deepen your awareness so that when you are in situations that might automatically trigger you, you can chose more healthy options.

Another aspect of the four step process is staying with emotions until one uncovers the underlying need. Sometimes, this involves the emotion shifting to another one. For example, say my partner gets angry because I didn't do the dishes. Rather than just starting an argument, Rosenberg would advise my partner to stay with her emotion. By being willing to fully feel the anger, she might realize in actuality that she feels hurt. By staying with the hurt she may have the realization that her underlying need is actually to feel loved and that me doing the dishes is symbolic for her of loving her and being concerned. With this additional awareness she is in a position to make a more vulnerable and powerful request that is likely to get her what she really wants. For example, using the four part model she might say, "When you forget to do the dishes (observation), I feel hurt (feeling-notice there is no blame or shame) because I notice that I'm not feeling loved because I associate you following through on things like that with being concerned for me (the real need). Now that you understand how I feel, would you be willing to be more vigilant about your agreements over everyday stuff because when you do it makes me feel like you care (request).

Admittedly the model is simple, but it is also very powerful. Most of us act without awareness much of the time. In our time contrained culture, we also tend to dismiss feelings as sources of information about needs that are important to us. This model helps you to get back in touch with the purpose of your emotion and your buried needs. It will help you to increase the intimacy in all of your relationships, not to mention helping you to make requests that are more likely to get you the results you wanted in the first place.

If you are serious about changing unhealthy communication patterns, I would also get the book to accompany this audio set. Patterns of language and the thinking that accompanies them are deeply engrained. In fact, there are often hidden assumptions in our automatic thinking such as OTHER people CAUSE our emotions. We actually have a lot of degree of control over how we feel when someone does a particular behavior. A lot of this depends upon how we "frame" or contextualize the behavior. This book is very useful in helping you uncover these patterns and changing them.

In my practice as personal growth coach I often recommend this book and audio CD to clients. I've seen this information help a lot of people and it has helped me too. If it helps you avoid even one argument with an important person in your life, it is well worth the cost. I guarantee it will raise your awareness around your unconscious processes and help you to have healthier relationships if you apply the ideas faithfully.

The CD on giving and receiving anger compassionately is especially good. This is a problem area for a lot of people and I think this CD alone justifies the cost of the set. Don't be deceived by Rosenberg's simple presentation of ideas. It is often the most simple ideas that are the most powerful when applied in daily life.

1. Observe what's happening - what's really going on? What is happening or being said that you either like or dislike?
2. Identify your feelings about it - anger, joy, hopeful, inspired, lonely?
3. Figure out what need you have that is driving that feeling
4. Ask for what you need (explicitly)
Really helps you how to handle situations in the real world.

A step up from the last princess book!!!

I had the opportunity to beta read for this upcoming novel and I absolutely loved it!!! If you liked the first book, you'll really love this one!!! It's so action packed, a big change of pace from Princesses don't get fat.

At first I wasn't sure I would like Arianna. She's spoiled, conceited and so full of herself that I just didn't think for one minute that she could become a warrior maid. Even she didn't want to become one, all she wanted was to be beautiful, married and fashionable; so at first I wrote her off.

But Arianna showed a lot of growth throughout the story. Yes she was still self centered, conceited and full of herself but by the middle of the book she grew to be likable. There are a lot of great new supporting characters. The women are hella strong in this book, it made me wanna go pick up a sword and become a battle maiden!!! I also liked the return of the characters I loved in the first book!!!

Overall Princesses don't fight in skirts was a really strong sequel with tons of action. You really don't have to read the first book to follow this book, but since there are returning characters it would be helpful if you did!

I really liked Prince James. He was so different from his older brother Ralph, who appeared in the first book. He was an eccentric prince and I loved that about him ;)

I seriously love the way Aya Ling writes. I had the chance to beta read this book before it was published. I loved it then and I loved it again when I read it for the second time after publication.

In this book we get to follow princess Arianna of Linderall as she unwillingly attends the Royal Rivieran Academy of Fighting Arts. She must learn all the skills required for adventuring when she would much rather order a new gown. The writing is light and quick to read. It's a very clean book, so even Tweens can enjoy it without parents worrying over content. There is light humor and a sprinkle of romance throughout the book.

Arianna goes through quite a big change during the course of this story. She goes from being pampered and rather useless to being an independent and courageous young woman. She doesn't lose herself, and she doesn't change completely, which I really liked. She stays herself. Highly recommended for fans of clean fairy tales and coming of age stories.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story

Following in someone's footsteps is hard enough when you want to be there, when you don't, it's even worse. This is a wonderful story of a young girl everyone expects to behave in a certain way; simply because of who she is. As time passes, she begins to find what is important to her, and to believe in herself, realizing compromise isn't such a bad thing.

The story is well written with characters that are easy to understand. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and will be giving it as a gift to all the young girls in my family.

"Thy Will Be Done" is an enjoyable and enlightening read of the Reverand George Truett, longtime pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas in the early 1900s. My interest was sparked by a couple of past sales jobs that required traveling in Western North Carolina, Truett's birthplace. I remember several times driving past his birthplace and one time made a brief visit.

Among the areas covered include:

1. Truett's early life in Western North Carolina and eventual move to Dallas TX.
2. Raising money for Baylor University.
3. Longtime pastorate at First Baptist of Dallas.
4. Involvement in various organizations such as the Baptist World Alliance.
5. Participation in several revivals.
6. Involvement in World War I as a chaplain.
7. Happy home life in spite of his frequent absence.
8. Reflections of the people he loved and who loved him (different races, faiths, and economic backgrounds).
9. Relationships with the rich and famous and the plain and ordinary people of his day.
10. Final illness.

Indeed, Truett was quite a preacher who refused to compromise the truth of the Gospel and yet loved people for who they were.

The book was highly readable and the narrative flowed smoothly.
