More like a 3.5

It's probably strange to give only a 3.5 when I find myself wanting to buy the next book in the series so badly after I finish the previous one. I've actually read the first three now, but am, honestly, only placing a review here because of the Amazon reminder email.

If you have read the first, this book follow pretty much directly after, to continue the story of Dex and Perry (plus family).

While I do find myself very much into the books themselves, I am fairly consistently "brought out" of the fantasy world in my head as I come across grammatical errors and sometimes even some of the of editing itself.

Thus, it is extremely difficult to formulate one single equation that gives you all the answers. It’s generally best to look at a company with a broad scope to guide the insights that formulae present. 2. When looking at a company’s performance, there will always be quantitative data about many variables (such as revenue). There are also qualitative aspects of a company which cannot be expressed with numbers. The quality of the employees, the name brand, the culture and position in the market – all important considerations when looking at a company, and yet no formula exists which can account for such aspects. This simple fact supports the notion that stock picking is much less of a science than it is an art. 3. Besides the depth and scope of evaluating stocks, there exists another market influence that will never be truly predictable – people’s emotions. It is the one factor that can send a stock price into a nosedive, despite a company’s great profits and innovative products. Even if the formulas forecasted a bright future, when investors lose confidence the stock takes on a harsh, risky climate. These points all add up to the fact that no perfect method for picking stocks exists. Whenever you come across a new approach, you must realize that it is merely an idea, a hypothesis, a “hunch.” Two strategies which completely contradict one another can be shown to both perform well. Although facts and formulas are important when choosing a strategy, you must also consider yourself. Make sure the strategy you choose is within your risk tolerance, and that it agrees with your lifestyle and time devotion. As you can see, stock picking is something that requires a great deal of thought and consideration. One might even question why anyone would bother with it at all. Of course, it all comes down to making the bottom line bigger. With a trained sense of the stock markets, one might be able to spot the next sleeper stock before it skyrockets. Back in 1986, Microsoft held its IPO. Those investors who were in from the start would have received astronomical returns in the neighborhood of 350 times their initial investment. To put that into perspective, had you invested a mere $1,000, by the spring of 2004 that money would have multiplied into $350,000. It’s plain to see that the pursuit of high return is a lucrative one, and should it be successful, quite rewarding as well.

Information packed book for investors

Everyone wants to invest their money wisely, some invests in business, some invests in stock market.
Effective Stock Picking Strategies for Long Term Investment is a great book for them who are willing to or already invested in any business especially in stock market. This book basically teaches how to invest your money wisely.
From this book I learned a lot about the investment terminology’s, stock market strategies, market analysis, how to become successful as a person or as a company and a lot more.
This book has twelve chapters and in every chapter I found valuable content. This book is written in a very simple manner. I learned a lot of tips and tricks and I hope this will also help others too.

About the Author
Dr. Cynthia Crosson-Tower is a national expert on child abuse and neglect and the author of numerous books and publications including Understanding Child Abuse and Neglect, Exploring Child Welfare: A Practice Perspective, When Children Are Abused: An Educator’s Guide to Intervention, A Clergy Guide to Child Abuse and Neglect and How Schools Can Combat Child Abuse and Neglect. Dr. Crosson-Tower taught in the Behavioral Sciences Department at Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts for 24 years, also founding and serving as the Director of the Child Protection Institute there. She maintains a private practice, Harvest Counseling and Consultation, specializing in the treatment of survivors of abuse and perpetrators of sexual abuse. Dr. Crosson-Tower served on the subcommittee to develop protocol for the Cardinal’s Commission of the Archdiocese of Boston and became a part of the Implementation and Oversight Committee of the Archdiocese’s Office of Child Advocacy.

Good text for the course I teach

Good text for the course I teach. BUT, it is WAY over-priced for a paperback textbook, and students have a hard time being able to afford it. That is a shame! I have used the textbook in a number of editions for many years, but am considering adopting something that is REASONABLE in price for my students.

good service, my book did come between the time that it said it was supposed to come-the last day they said the book was supposed to come. I suppose it still came and it promised it would come between the certain dates. Although I was stressed out because I needed the book for school I really cant complain because the book still came in the time frame. Thank you!

Hilariously written and a unique concept

I laughed out loud reading this book. The writing style & timing is absolutely hilarious. The premise is a bit unbelievable, but it's supposed to be. It's a fictional "what if" and it's told, as it should be, from the viewpoint of a cynical editor. The idea that a Charles Mansonesque brainwashing con artist could change the world is laughable, but makes you wonder...could it happen? I'd recommend this book to anyone who craves a unique storyline and escape to a world that could be.

More angry, urban male fiction - Worth your time!

`Generica' was much what I expected it would be - biting, `gen-x' satire, with snide inside jokes at the popular culture of North America. It was also very much not what I expected - very funny, very insightful, and the author made it very clear he was well aware of the irony of the satire. It's also interesting that he neatly falls into the angry, urban male category he outlined for Canadian fiction in "How to Be a Canadian". A long time fan of Mr. Ferguson, I grudgingly admitted that I was entertained, and impressed, when finished. As a side note, I find it fascinating that the book had to be remarketed (is that even a word?) under the European title "Happiness" to increase its North American appeal, while it has been a huge success overseas. Another sad example of Canadian apathy. Keep it comin', Will.

Generica (also known as Happiness TM) is vicious, clever, and insightful. The ending lagged a bit, but barely detracted from the pleasure of reading this book. I laughed out loud, and often.

"When we think of home canning, our mind's eye is quick to envision neat rows of jars lining pantry shelves, safely filled with food just waiting to be opened so we can prepare a variety of tasty meals for our dear families," Georgia Varozza writes in her book, "The Amish Canning Cookbook."

This spiral-bound paperback book has two hundred and nineteen pages targeted to those cooks, chefs, and homemakers who want to learn plain and simple canning at its homemade best. For over twenty years, Varozza has been canning and is certified, producing three hundred jars the book's production year alone.

After an introduction about the author's personal canning journey, there are thirteen chapters dedicated to its history, getting started, the two types of canning, making butters, jams and jellies, using pickles, tomatoes, fruits, pie fillings, vegetables, meat, poultry, and fish along with soups and stews and tips and encouragement, ending with an extensive topical index. Almost all pages include a blank side bar for the reader's notes.

The benefits of canning include saving money, aiding meal planning, and stocking shelves with no preservatives, additives or BPA while being easier on the environment. Not only do canned foods taste better and are at the cupboard's door later, they are perfect for unexpected guests and gifts, giving personal satisfaction to the maker.

Explaining both water-bath and pressure canning, Varozza has step-by-step guides mentioning costs, cooking, filling, processing, and cleaning up along with how to use Tattler lids correctly.

The bulk of the book is recipes, usually with bullet point instructions, lists of ingredients and processing times. Recipes give options with either powdered or liquid pectin, fresh-pack or quick pickling, hot or cold packing and Clear-Jel or cornstarch. The chapter on Soups, Stews and Other Good Things has a plethora of simple to complex menu ideas.

With safety first, the author is explicit on what to do and what not to do, especially mentioning foods that should not be canned. She takes the simple but concise approach to doing canning right the first time but offers advice when erred.

With all the processed, preservative-saturated food in the supermarket at perpetually increasing costs, this book is one way to make and enjoy the food God has blessed us with now and in months to come.

Very informative.

I wanted to learn how to can so decided to get the Amish Canning Cookbook. The cookbook is well written and has very good explanations as to why things should be done a certain way. The recipes are wonderful and useful. I made jams, jelly, and canned everything from carrots to soups and all turned out excellent. There are no pictures really that you can look at but I wanted a cookbook not a picture book! I would recommend this to anyone thinking about doing their own canning.

Being an experienced canner I felt it was a little too "beginner" for me. Half of the book is explanation. But it has some good recipes and would be a good "starter" book for someone.

Keith Hamilton is an historian in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. His most recent publication (co-edited with Patrick Salmon) is Slavery, Diplomacy and Empire: Britain and the Suppression of the Slave Trade, 1807-1975 (2009).

Richard Langhorne is Professor of Global Politics at the University of Buckingham and a Full Professor in the Division of Global Affairs at Rutgers University, USA. He was formerly Director of Wilton Park, FCO, (1993-1996) and Director of the Centre of International Studies at Cambridge University (1987-1993).
