Low Fear, Easy Entry Into Couples Talk

I could certainly tell the John Gray influence. I thought the book would be good for couples where the guy wasn't quite interested in jumping into the relationship talk. Which would be about 90% of the guys I know. The book is easy to get into, short enough not to get boring or pissed off about working on the relationship. A couple could decide to do a topic a night or a topic a week and enjoy talking and laughing over a glass of wine.

Many guys, and probably gals too, need an easy, introductory way to get started. I think the book could be a low fear, easy entry point for many couples. And then that could lead them into more books or further progress. I like the low fear entry point as I believe that "fear" stops a lot of couples from talking. I hope others enjoy the book as much as I did.

"Useful Rules--even for Veteran Relationships!"

"My wife and I have been happily married for 34 years, successfully raised two sons to manhood, and survived two career changes (each). The other day, however, she had a tough day at work, wanted to talk about it, and I forgot Janice Hoffman's "Rule #2: "Listen without Interrupting." That made for a tough night. We didn't get to this point in our marriage without effort, however, so the next morning, we read Chapter #2 together, and then we talked about it. Thanks, Janice! If I had a copy of Relationship Rules by Janice Hoffman earlier in life it may have saved me a couple of divorces. The “Rules” are really just what works in developing a relationship and keeping it alive over the long term. Relationship Rules is an easy read, clean and to-the-point. Heart and Soul

Books do not get any more genuine than this one. This is a truly inspiring piece that challenges you to examine your life and appreciate the differences that make you special. Just when you think that your weird quirks make you inferior to other "normal" people, Fugler's collection of poetry brings the world into perspective from the eyes of a child. For a beautiful story full of defeat and triumph, "It's OK To Stare" is the book to buy. It is also reassuring to know that this story is not just another concoction formulated from the desk of a writer who is desperate for a big break. Instead, this book illustrates the actual happenings of the author's life. The struggles throughout are very real and make the story come alive in my heart and soul every time I pick it up to read. I give this book the highest recommendation!

Great rhymes, good message

"The fly ran away in fear of the frog

Who ran from the cat, who ran from the dog..."

This book reads like a kid's version of the cold war comedy "The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming," because everyone is afraid someone else is out to get them, and fear makes them do foolish things.

As an antidote to some of the past reviews I've seen, I want to point out that NO ACTUAL VIOLENCE occurs in this book. It is considerably less violent than classic children's tales like the Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. The characters are only AFRAID that someone is out to get them. That's the whole point of the story.

Only the child narrator is fearless enough to confront each animal in turn and get to the root of all the fear, which is a misunderstanding. This message is put across in catchy rhymes that repeat in longer and longer sequences of who runs from whom, in the "house that Jack built" sort of pattern that small children especially enjoy. My one-and-a-half-year-old son and I have had a lot of fun with this book.

Fantastic book with important developmental themes

I have a child development degree (in addition to a child of my own) and I feel this is a great book with good concepts. It uses simple, familiar words and repetition to help beginning readers become confident in their abilities. It rhymes and has a chain-effect/cause and effect story to help children start developing those concepts. It teaches a very important lesson and has a cute plot. I don't know why people think it's violent. If they think a hunter (who isn't even hunting, he's a big fraidy cat running away from a little lamb) is violent, I hope they don't let their children watch Bambi (Bambi's dad is shot), The Lion King (Mufasa is MURDERED and the hyenas talk about murder), Fox and the Hound (Again, a hunter kills...), etc. I also hope they don't let their children read How The Grinch Stole Christmas because if they believe this book is violent then I wonder what they think of the Grinch's identity theft, breaking and entering and grand larceny, even if it does teach a valuable lesson in the end. This book is all in good fun and has an ideal outcome. It isn't scary, and no one gets hurt. It teaches children to think critically and problem solve. It also encourages them to help others. In the end everyone realizes how silly they were for being afraid of the unknown and the whole thing was just a bunch of misunderstandings.It is true to life, a fly would be chased by a frog, a cat by a dog, etc. My entire family has loved it for three generations now, and I'm very glad my mom dug it out of a storage box for my little girl.

My Favorite Childhood Book

While in a neighborhood store I spotted a small boy carrying this book. I told him it was my favorite book when I was a child and we spent a wonderful 5 minutes in line discussing "which animal came next". Classics do stand the test of time.

Looks good to me

I just downloaded it and scanned it, so take that into account as you read my review. I have been building an app with node-webkit for a couple weeks. The main programmer behind it, Roger Wang, has done a good job putting what you need to know on the web. Also, I have posted questions to the news group, and gotten good answers. But still, I find it useful to read a "narrative" coverage of any new technology, whenever I start working with it. (I have 30 years programming experience. This Javascript/html/css stuff is fairly new to me.)

This is the only book I am aware of, of its kind. The author writes clearly and engagingly. The material covered is appropriate. I think he covered most of what you need to get started.

The main thing is, this book may very well help you to see how the different parts interrelate, and support each other.

One of the best beginner's guides for any language that I've ever seen

This book doesn't assume you know anything beyond the basics of downloading files and creating directories. After that, it's all spelled out. So many books on web technologies are written by folks who take way too much background knowledge for granted. He walks you through a detailed installation process that actually works perfectly. He doesn't tell you in footnotes about other prerequisites that you need after the fact--well, except for a couple of less frequently used modules like those for audio and video.
I never could get Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2015 to create html applications - the Microsoft equivalent to node-webkit, but I did a nw.js app in about 15 minutes after the setup was completed. Both were just simple "hello world."
The examples are complex enough (spoiler: even the "hello world" had some fun extensions) to make them interesting, without being beyond the comprehension of anyone seriously wanting to learn to program. He also explains why things are done, and by the end of the book you have an excellent "startup" script you can include in all of your programs to implement some best practices. Several times while reading, questions came to mind and I started googling for answers, only to find he answered them on the next page as if he was really thinking of how his audience would respond. Most technical writers do not seem to do this.
Some of the links are out of date, but the "node-webkit" developers have taken care of their name change to "nw.js" extremely well and you will get redirected properly.

Following the release of recordings such as Freak Out, Absolutely Free, We're Only In It For the Money and Hot Rats, Zappa's reputation in the United States and in Europe, especially the UK, Germany and Holland, took off. When the Berlin wall fell, Frank was surprised to learn that his extravagant music embodied sixties liberty for a generation of dissidents (including Vaclav Havel, who invited Zappa to be his minister for culture). Frank Zappa is an authoritative and hugely enjoyable portrait of a singular man and a vivid evocation of the West Coast scene.

Pursued under conditions appropriate to non-servile endeavor, prostitution--like all forms of free labor--was not violative of Athenian work ethics. As a mercantile activity, however, prostitution was not untouched by Athenian antagonism toward commercial and manual pursuits; as the "business of sex," prostitution further evoked negativity from segments of Greek opinion uncomfortable with any form of carnality. Yet ancient sources also adumbrate another view, in which the sale of sex, lawful and indeed pervasive at Athens, is presented alluringly.

In a book that will be of interest to all students of sex and gender, to economic, legal and social historians, and to classicists, the author explores the high compensation earned by female sexual entrepreneurs who often controlled prostitutional businesses that were perpetuated from generation to generation on a matrilineal basis, and that benefitted from legislative restrictions on pimping. The author juxtaposes the widespread practice of "prostitution pursuant to written contract" with legislation targeting male prostitutes functioning as governmental leaders, and explores the seemingly contradictory phenomena of extensive sexual exploitation of slave prostitutes (male and female) coexisting with Athenian society's pride in its legislative protection of slaves and minors against sexual outrage.
